Civil Air Patrol is called in when domestic emergencies occur. Civil Air Patrol offers programs to qualify members in CPR, First Aid, and ground team, (searching for downed planes, lost hikers, etc). Seniors can qualify for air search and rescue (searching from airplanes) and directing ground teams. Civil Air Patrol has radio frequencies that require a CAP radio license to operate. The radio class is two hours long, and any CAP member may take it. The class covers standard operating procedures for using the radios, the phonetic alphabet, (A=alpha, B=bravo, etc), and a practice session.
