Cadets are instructed in leadership, as well as aspects of followership. Followership is reaching a specific goal while exercizing respect for authority, a positive attitude, integrity, and self-discipline. The experience of following is absolutely invaluable to a good leader. The cadet program begins with effective followership, and then moves into aspects of leadership, as in drilling a flight, being in short term command positions, and learning their position in the chain of command. The leadership qualities gained by membership in CAP can very easily be carried over into other aspects of one's life, for example, school, and work.
